The best time to post on social media

When’s the best time to post on your socials? We wish we could give you an exact time and day for a one-size-fits-all answer. Unfortunately, many factors will play a part in the best time to reach your audience, including social media platforms, audience, type of post and the industry you’re in.

Let’s take a look!

When is the best time to post for your audience?

First and foremost, the most important thing to consider is your audience! You could be posting at the right time and on the right platform, but if your posts aren’t designed with your target audience in mind, all the hard work you’ve put into curating your posts isn’t paying off.

Take note of which posts your audience engages with the most and when they seem to be the most active – this will be a good start to determine the best time to post to reach more of them!

When is the best time to post for your chosen Social Media Platform?

Now, of course, you’ve set your business up on multiple social media platforms because it’s the best way to reach a larger customer base and build a relationship with your target audience. But with those multiple social media accounts comes a whole set of rules on when to engage with these customers.

As a general rule, the best time to post is mid-week mornings. Why? Because everyone checks their phone at this time while enjoying their morning avo on toast and coffee.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Remember that this is a ‘general rule’, and every platform is different!

Once you’ve been posting for a little while, you’ll be able to see any patterns that emerge and posts that work and don’t work with your audience.

If you’re just starting out, these are some good starting points:

Facebook

  • The best time to post is Mid-day during the week.
  • The Worst time to post is before 7am and after 7pm.

Instagram

  • The best times to post are mid to late afternoon between 3 pm-6 pm and 6 pm -9 pm.
  • Saturday is the best day to post, and Monday and Friday are the worst.

Twitter

  • Between 12 pm – 1 pm is the most popular
  • Friday is the best time to post

When is the best time to post for your industry?

We can all drill down a little and the timings that work best for different industries. Based on current data, here are some interesting points to note:

Hospitality industry

The best times to post in hospitality are Monday-Friday at about noon. This is when everyone jumps onto their break and dreams of the lunch they wish they were having instead of their usual salad sandwich.

Friday is the best day for engagement, with everyone finalising their weekend plans and locking in those brunch reservations!

Travel and Tourism industry

Wednesday at noon, Thursday and Friday are the best days to reach your audience searching for their next weekend getaway while at their desk.

The worst day to post is Saturday and Sunday – because everyone is out doing their own travelling!

Tech Industry

The tech industry has experienced huge growth on social media in the last couple of years, with the best time to post being Wednesday at 8 am and Friday at 10 am.

The least amount of engagement is on a Sunday, with fewer people checking in with this industry over the weekend.
