LinkedIn for Business and Marketing
So you’ve heard of LinkedIn. You know it’s great for professional networking and advancing your career, but what about for your business?
Social Media Standing
It’s perhaps easy to overlook LinkedIn as the baby sister to social media behemoths such as Facebook and Instagram, but business is booming on the platform, with some 690 million registered users and counting. As a side note, did you know that LinkedIn is turning 18 in 2021? Yep – this network is all grown up – from its early years as ‘just’ a recruitment platform, LinkedIn has blossomed into a big and beautiful professional network where people and companies can grow their industry knowledge and seek out business-related content.
B2B Business Hero
If your business is B2B focussed, LinkedIn is the perfect platform to build your brand. Indeed, the business site offers plenty of features to:
- promote your brand’s core values on a (free!) company page
- drive traffic to your business website
- help you identify and generate quality leads (and boost conversions)
- extend your reach (locally and globally) and grow your contacts list.
There are also a number of worthwhile paid features on LinkedIn for marketing and advertising, including opportunities to gather professional data for cost-effective B2B lead generation.
Network, network, network!
LinkedIn can become a successful tool in your business’ marketing strategy through the expansion of your professional network: join groups related to your industry, participate in discussions, showcase your expertise with newsworthy thought-leadership content, and boost your reputation as an industry leader or up-and-coming mover and shaker. Raising awareness and driving engagement is the name of the game here – get set to make your brand-story a bestseller.
But I’m a B2C Business!?
For many, LinkedIn is seen as a B2B hothouse, but B2C businesses can also leverage the network. B2C posts can stand out as unique from the hum of B2B content, and don’t forget that those millions of professionals who use LinkedIn regularly have social lives beyond work, and those lives involve all sorts of consumer wants and needs. You can crank up engagement not only by showcasing your products or services but also by giving insight into your company as a group of great individuals with stories to tell.
Hang on! What about all those other social media channels?
While our team at Viewpoint Digital Media near Geelong don’t suggest you go scattershot and try and market your business everywhere, we do suggest that LinkedIn can just be one (very handy!) tool in your digital media marketing toolbox. Look to where your customers are and focus your efforts accordingly – a little bit of customer research here will go a long way, with Instagram a great option for visual products or services, and Facebook a very wide-reaching net (although by most accounts, Gen Z is not as FB-engaged as the rest of us!)
Three Quick Tips
- To maximise page views, make sure your LinkedIn page is complete and active (an update a week is a great target to work towards).
- Spread your message further and faster with the moveable image – video content is your golden ticket to re-shares.
- Get in touch if you need a hand with getting started or maintaining your engagement. Our team of digital marketing experts at Viewpoint Digital Media are here to help.
